Gilroy – The Hit Men rallied past South Valley Plumbing-Elam Trucking 14-13 Monday to earn the second-half Men’s CCC League softball title at Christmas Hill Park.
The Hit Men struck for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to conclude the tie-breaker game. Both teams had 5-1 marks for the second half. The win lifts the Hit Men into the CCC Championship Series against Blackout Window Tinting beginning tonight at 7:40pm at Christmas Hill. South Valley Plumbing-Elam Trucking will face Rosso’s Rebels in the best 2-of-3 D Series beginning on Friday Aug. 11 at 7:40pm at Christmas Hill.
The Hit Men built a 6-1 lead after three innings. Russ Chagnon, Henry Quistian and Hector Viramontez hit consecutive home runs to open the Hit Men second frame.
Jordan Newton powered a two-run triple as the Plumbers-Truckers posted seven runs in the third inning. Randy Evanger gave the Plumbers-Truckers a 13-9 lead in the top of the sixth with an RBI-single.
Jason Chaput keyed a three-run Hit Men sixth with a two-run triple, scoring on a Kurt Maltman single. Albert Sanchez opened the Hit Men seventh with a single. An infield error put Chagnon on base. Quistian’s single up the middle plated Sanchez with the tying marker. Gilbert Tovar brought Chagnon home with a one-out single.
The South Valley Community Church Thumpers #1 outlasted S&S Construction 9-8 in a Men’s EE League tie-breaker game Monday.
The verdict pushed the Thumpers into a best 2-of-3 series against St. Mary Men’s Club starting on Thursday Aug. 10 at 7:40pm at Las Animas Park.
Louie Vasquez Jr. hit a two-run home run and Steve Facio bashed an RBI-triple as S&S Construction rushed to a 6-2 lead in the first inning.
The Thumpers retaliated with six runs in the second, sparked by consecutive two-run doubles from Tony Rodriguez and Adolfo Tellez.
Felipe Amador hit an RBI-single and Lalo Garces followed with a sacrifice fly in the S&S sixth to make it 8-8. Tellez singled with one out in the Thumper seventh, reached second on a two-out single from Ron Reinartz. Steve Conroy provided the game-winning single to leftfield.
Craig Avila Bail Bonds defeated Czar Construction 29-3 in a Men’s BB tie-breaker game Monday.

Ruben Ramirez went 5-for-5 and Leroy Dozal hit a grand slam for the Bondsmen. Benji Dequin and Rico Lopez lashed home runs for Czar Construction.
Three other Championship Series open tonight. Kay’s Kids and Image & Design Salon & Day Spa-Guy’s Heating begin Women’s C action at 8:50pm at Christmas Hill. Stubby’s Girls and Williams Dental Lab begin Women’s B play at 6:30pm at Las Animas, with Trevino Brothers Construction and Louie & the Outlaws playing in the Men’s DD opener at 7:40pm.
