Go mustangs!

Yawary earned Tri-County Athletic League First-Team accolades,
Ikeme Second-Team.
If not prior to the game, than for sure during it, opposing coaches usually tweaked their game plan to deal with Gilroy High point guard Cameron Yawary.

A scorer in the truest sense, Yawary found ways to produce points. Whether he spotted up a deep trey or scrambled his way through the lane for an acrobatic layup and one, the senior had a nose for the hoop, even though it was broken early in the season. Yawary nearly toppled a 25-year-old school record when he went for a career-high 42 points against San Benito in early January. The 42 points was three shy of the record set by Derek Bruton in 1985.

The masked marksman earned Tri-County Athletic League First-Team honors for his efforts in helping the Mustangs reach the playoffs for the third straight season.

Senior Chima Ikeme made a pair of postseason TCAL lists. The center grabbed a spot on the Second-Team as well as the All-Defensive Team.

Though undersized as a center, Ikeme’s work ethic, as well as his hops inside, gave the Mustangs a reliable source on both ends of the floor under the basket.

Yawary and Ikeme have one final prep contest to play out. The duo was selected to play in the fourth annual Salinas Steinbeck Rotary Club North-South All-Star game.

Senior Dylan Jensen earned the Richard Chamberlin Sportsmanship Award, handed out to just one player from each team in the league, spotlighting his ability to be the ideal teammate and upholding a respect for all aspects of the game.

Jensen, a defensive specialist often called upon to tangle with the big boys inside, started at forward for most of the season.
