Traffic woes:

Traffic woes: “Hi, I have just about reached my limit on Santa Teresa Boulevard. Everyday I have to drive that at least twice a day and it’s crazy. They stop traffic in the morning during rush hour so they can move their trucks in and out of the construction area. Then I go through at 10 in the morning and they’re not doing anything. Why do they do it at the rush period? Can’t they hold off until after 10 when things have quieted down? I know they have to do the construction, but they could time it better. That’s it. Bye.”
The Red Phone is pleased to be the bearer of good news. But unfortunately there’s bad news too, if you’re a morning commuter along Santa Teresa Boulevard. The good news is that traffic-clogging construction is over. The bad news is that it will be back.
Gilroy’s City Transportation Engineer Don Dey acknowledged there was a period in April when the construction company working on the road-widening project was removing pavement.
“That is a huge activity that occurred for three or four days,” Dey explained. “It was a very intensive process. At the beginning, it was a real mess.”
He said officials asked the contractor to delay work until after 8:30am to avoid interfering with the peak school commute.
“We’ve got that squared away and will continue to monitor to make sure we don’t get anymore undue truck congestion,” Dey said. “We’re not expecting any more intensive work like that for a few months.”
The next round of heavy construction will occur in the next two or three months, when workers bring in rock material for grading the road.
Dey could not provide a precise date, since the contractor only produces a five week “look-ahead,” so it’s hard to predict exactly when you’ll experience the next round of headaches.
Dey assured, however, that officials are “going to do their best to make sure the contractor does not disturb traffic.”
And he encouraged residents with concerns to contact the city engineering department at 846-0450.
Opinions wanted: “Hi, I’ve called a few times before and you’ve printed my calls. Now I’d like to know if anyone else agrees with me about the sex offender who got caught on the Internet. I feel it’s wrong for the cops to go out there creating these violations. They’re taking part in it just as much. It would be like a cop planning out a bank robbery and going around trying to find people who will join in and then arresting them. It’s just as demented as a 30-year-old talking to a 13-year-old as a 13-year-old talking to a 30-year-old. It works both ways and it works on the parents. There’s some problem there. And if there’s a 13-year-old going along with it, it seems it’s a little unfair.
“Everyone had a weakness. I don’t think what he did was right, but I think with the right situation, anyone can be talked into violating the law in one way or another. A lot of people to that comment might snub their nose, but everyone has weaknesses. It doesn’t seem right that a cop should go out there putting out those negative situations. It’s entrapment. It was a trap and he fell for it, but we can’t hold it totally against him because it was a made up situation. Thanks.”
Your opinion is noted and appreciated. How ’bout it readers? What do you think about this recent situation? For anyone who didn’t catch the article on Thursday, May 5, ‘Trolling for sex offenders,’ it can be found at www.gilroydispatch.com.
Outstanding service: “Hi, I would just like the Red Phone to know that the people who trim the trees in front of our house were the most efficient, nicest people we’ve ever seen in Gilroy and they did a good job. Thank you.”
Among all the complaints the Red Phone hears, it’s nice to get a complimentary call every now and then. Perhaps a quick note or phone call to the company that performed the service would be a nice gesture? If not, the Red Phone hopes your message finds its way to those who serviced your trees.
Any other readers have compliments they’d like others to know about?
