Dear Editor,

One really enjoys reading J.G. McCormack’s letters on intelligent design (ID) – a recasting of scientific creationism which is a recasting of special creation which is the literal account of the two different stories of biblical creation. The reader picks which version to believe.

In fisherman’s lingo, one recasts with an intent to catch something another time. As ID cannot swim alone, the only thing that keeps it afloat is the scientific theory of evolution. Like a shark, it has no swim bladder, and it too will sink to the benthos due to its lack of scientific content.

So, Mr. McCormack, keep casting away with religious fervor. Maybe one day you’ll catch the “big one.” This would be the coelacanth, a cross between a land tetrapod, amphibian, lungfish, shark and eel. Must have been a slow but interesting day for the ID team!

A minor correction … normal human fertilized ova contain 46 helices of DNA (not one) that partially determine embryonic outcomes.
