First-half champs break three-way tie with wins over Red Dogz,

GILROY – Interstate Fence won a Men’s C League doubleheader Monday at Las Animas Park to emerge with the first-half title to complete the first half of the Gilroy Community Services Department adult softball program.

Interstate, the Red Dogz and Kenko Pipelayers shared the top spot in the C League after the six-game schedule. To break the tie, a two-game series was scheduled Monday. Interstate responded with a 23-7 victory over the Red Dogz, then topped Kenko 20-15.

The second half of the adult softball program begins Sunday June 22 with a Men’s DDD League triplebill beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Las Animas.

The Red Dogz built a 4-1 lead through two frames, but Interstate took control with a five-run third inning that Anthony Bautista capped with a three-run home run. Mike Lucio and Eddie Gamboa provided two-run homers in the fifth for the Fence. Henry Huerta clubbed a two-run homer in the sixth. Will Lawrence poked two doubles and Lucio provided a single and double in an 11-run seventh for the winners.

Emilio Vargas went 3-for-3 and Mark Perez homered for the Red Dogz.

Interstate began the game against Kenko with an 11-run first inning, sparked by two Sean Subia hits. Ed Vargas went 4-for-4 for Interstate Fence. Simon Hernandez scored four Fence runs. Scott Perkins powered two home runs and two triples for Kenko, while Brock Prather stroked two homers, Kevin Orosco and Bobby Martin one each.
