of 88.
John B. Spencer died in Gilroy Wednesday May 4, 2005, at the age of 88.

Mr. Spencer was born June 24, 1916 in Albany. His family brought him to Patterson in 1917 when they relocated the family dairy to the San Joaquin Valley.

He graduated from Patterson High School in 1935. He was a member of the California National Guard and the 96th Infantry Division during WWII.

After the war he returned to family farming in Patterson for more than 58 years. In 2000 he moved to Gilroy to live with his wife and youngest daughter.

In addition to farming, Mr. Spencer worked for the Patterson Irrigation District and was a rural mail carrier. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Legion, and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by daughters, Kay Spencer and Joan Spencer of Gilroy; son, Raymond Spencer of Aromas; grandsons, Kenneth Spencer of Tacoma, Tyler Gresham, of Dos Palos, and Robert Gresham of Gilroy; as well as two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wife Helen Spencer, and son David Spencer.

Viewing will be held at 8am, Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson. A funeral service will be held at 10am, followed by burial.
