Quintanar, 77, passed away in Gilroy on Feb. 22, 2003, following
a lengthy illness. He was a native of San Pablo Toleman, Queretaro,
Mexico.
Jose R. “Papa Che Che” Quintanar, 77, passed away in Gilroy on Feb. 22, 2003, following a lengthy illness. He was a native of San Pablo Toleman, Queretaro, Mexico.

He is the husband of the late Eva Quintanar.

Mr. Quintanar is survived by his children and their spouses, Eugenio Quintanar, of Mexico City, Ramon and Vicky Quintanar of Los Banos, Jose Jr. and Nelda Quintanar of Gilroy, Robert and Alicia Quintanar of Los Banos, Dora and Tomas Andrade of Gilroy and Pete Quintanar of Gilroy. He is the grandfather of Ramon Quintanar Jr., Richard Quintanar, Jose Quintanar III, Irma Quintanar, Crystal Quintanar, Raul Quintanar, Claudia Quintanar, Angelica Quintanar, Tomas Andrade III, Carlos Andrade, Vanessa Andrade, Bianca Andrade, Stephanie Quintanar, Jessica Quintanar and Melissa “Pica” Quintanar, Jorge Quintanar, Marisol Calderon, Henry Calderon Jr. and Eric Calderon. He is also survived by many brothers and a sister in Mexico and also his brother Juan Quintanar and Emiterio Quintanar of Gilroy, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Olga Calderon and his son Raul “Male” Quintanar.

Mr. Quintanar moved to Gilroy from Harlingen, Texas in 1968. He worked for many years at Steakmate Mushrooms in Morgan Hill. He loved baseball and was an avid Giants fan. Mr. Quintanar was a member of the Church of God.

Vigil Service will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Gilroy.
