auto accident with her two children.
Julie L. Foerstler, a former Gilroy resident, died Friday in an auto accident with her two children. She was 38.
Foerstler was born Aug. 9, 1964, in Alameda to Gerald and Joanne Aldrich. She grew up in Gilroy and attended school in Gilroy. She graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a degree in Animal Science and later received her teaching degree at Oregon State University at Corvallis, Ore. She married Kevin J. Foerstler in Gilroy on June 17, 1989.
Foerstler, in addition to substitute teaching, was an active mother and wife. She was the current president of the London School PTA and was involved as a volunteer for many years. She was a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association for 29 years and a certified judge for over 15 years. She was very involved in the Cottage Grove Recreational leagues and was a 4-H leader.
Her son Matt Foerstler, age 12, was born Sept. 19, 1990, and was a sixth-grader at London School. He enjoyed Taekwondo, baseball, basketball and soccer. He loved reading science fiction and learning about dinosaurs. He was devoted to raising and showing his cavies and rabbits. He is remembered as the diligent student and academic of the family.
Mandy Foerstler, age 9, was born on Aug. 17, 1993, and was in the fourth grade at London School. She enjoyed dance, baseball, basketball, soccer and learning to play the organ. She was devoted to raising her horse and rabbits. She is remembered as an outgoing and friendly person.
Julie is survived by her husband Kevin Foerstler; parents Jerry and Kay Aldrich of Shingletown; father-in-law and mother-in-law Bill and Clare Foerstler of Penngrove; sister and brother-in-law Karen and Jim Deaver of Redding; nephews Colton and Jason Deaver of Redding; Uncle Mike Hoyer of Livermore; and aunt Kathleen Arima of Anchorage, Alaska.
Catholic Rosary and Mass for all three will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Cottage Grove. Celebration of Life will follow at 3:30 p.m. Private cremation is under the care of Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium.
Memorial contributions can be made to a scholarship fund established through Cottage Grove High School.
