Emulating the success of the varsity squad, Gilroy’s junior varsity wrestling team took fourth place this past weekend at a tournament in Cupertino.
The Mustangs had five individuals medal by finishing in the top eight.
Mike Lucero, Martin Espinoza and Adam Rosso all took second place in their respective divisions, while Adrian Melendez took third and Felix Gonzalez finished in fifth.
“They’re starting to gel a little bit,” GHS coach John Gurich said. “All of them are coming along real well.”
The coach added that his team has improved through the addition of several football players, who are using wrestling as a way to stay in shape and learn new techniques that can help them during next year’s season on the gridiron.
