SAN JOSE –The BoDeans – featuring Sam Llanas and Kurt Neumann on vocals and guitars, and Bob Griffin on bass – is a “roots rock” band that sold millions of albums in its 15 years together.

Touring in the late ’80s with U2 and Robbie Robertson, among others, the group became one of the top 100 best-sellers of recorded music in the United States.

The band in June released “Resolution” on Zoë/Rounder Records, their first album since “Blend” in 1996.

The BoDeans’ most recognized song, “Closer to Free,” off their 1993 release “Go Slow Down,” became the theme song for the popular television series “Party of Five.”

‘The Producers’

SAN JOSE – The most-awarded show in Broadway history, the Mel Brooks musical “The Producers,” will opens the 2004-05 season of American Musical Theatre of San Jose.

The play is based on Brooks’ 1968 film of the same name. It’s the story of down-on-his-luck theatrical producer Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, a mousy accountant. Together they hatch the ultimate scam: raise more money than you need for a sure-fire Broadway flop and pocket the difference. Their “sure-fire” theatrical fiasco? None other than the musical “Springtime for Hitler.”

The show begins July 6 and closes July 25. It shows Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m., Sundays at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday, July 21 at 2 p.m.

The show will take place at the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts, 255 Almaden Blvd., in San Jose. Tickets range from $50 to $77. For tickets, call 1-888-455-SHOW or 453-7108. For more information, visit www.amtsj.org or www.producersontour.com.
