Hoeft, Costa net 12 each in 60-49 loss to Salinas
SALINAS – Despite four Lady Mustangs putting up double-digits in the scoring column, the Gilroy High girls basketball team suffered a critical 60-49 road loss to Salinas on Friday.
Gilroy (1-5 in T-CAL, 9-13 overall) jumped out to a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter, but could not hold off Salinas (5-1 in T-CAL, 13-8 overall), which was led by Rebecca Fales’ 22-point performance.
Junior Kendall Costa and senior Sarah Hoeft tallied 12 points each, while freshman Kristen Campos and junior Amanda Link added 10 points apiece. Freshman Marissa Nowakowski netted five points as well.
The Lady Mustangs trailed 30-27 at the half, 42-38 at the end of the third quarter, and were outscored 18-11 in the final quarter.
Up next, Gilroy will travel to Hollister on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. contest before returning home Thursday to host Notre Dame at 7 p.m.
