Help the vets … and more:

“The traffic pattern on Santa Teresa Boulevard, between First Street through the northwest quadrant is ridiculous. I think the way they laid it out is screwy. I think it was done half-assed. I know they’re working on the road and that’s the big plus in all this, but until then – which I think is going to be a few months – there’s going to be problems on that road.

“My second beef is the flagpole fund at Christmas Hill Park. I believe they’re about $9,000 short of about an $84,000 ticket. It would be nice if some people would get excited in this city, if somebody could come through for these guys. The vets are always there when somebody needs an honor guard … they’re always there. … I think we need to come to bat for them.

“Those are my two beefs. Have a great day. Bye.”

Caller, thanks for sharing your beefs. The Red Phone contacted the city to check on the anticipated completion date for the road work along Santa Teresa, but has yet to reach someone to get an answer. The Red Phone will continue to seek out some information about the road work, so keep your eyes peeled to future Red Phone columns.

In case anyone missed it, the Red Phone would recommend readers check out the front page of Tuesday’s edition for the article titled, “Gilroy vets still a few thousand dollars short.’ The article details the Christmas Hill Park project.

The Red Phone double-checked with project manager Wayne Cegelske and found out that the project is indeed about $9,000 short.

“We had a groundbreaking ceremony on Veterans Day,” he said, and added, “Any donations would be greatly appreciated and accepted.”

For anyone who would like to help the veterans with the Christmas Hill Park project, you may send tax deductible donations to:

Gilroy Veterans Flagpole Fund, P.O. Box 1588, Gilroy, CA 95021 or for further information contact Wayne Cegelske at 842-4903.

Where are monte vista sports?:

“I was wondering why the Dispatch does not cover any of the Monte Vista Christian High School sporting events? There are a lot of students who attend Monte Vista who live here in Gilroy, San Martin and Morgan Hill and a lot of good sporting events go on over there, but nothing’s covered in the Dispatch.

“It would be nice to see some of the coverage once and a while. Thank you.”

Looks like you may have dialed into the wrong colored phone, caller.

“But don’t fret, the Red Phone passed along your gripe to its sports lovin’, football throwin’ counterpart, the Green Phone. (Green with envy because it’s not quite as well-known as your beloved Red Phone!)

“Look for the Green Phone to comment on your call in an upcoming column, which runs Fridays. And for anyone who wants to gripe about sports, give the Green Phone a call at 800-687-0836 and show it some love – but keep in mind its just as sarcastic as yours truly … maybe even more so.

Readers:

Know of a situation with a streetlight? Problems with potholes? Or perhaps you’re feeling Grinchly and want to complain about a neighbor’s over-the-top decorating. Though the Red Phone doesn’t think holiday decorations can be, it’s here to listen to your troubles and woes (but encourages happy thoughts), so give it a call at 842-9070 or send an e-mail to
