So, local liberal Marc Perkel wants to know how the Democrats can win mid-term elections this fall?
The answer is to feed the voters MORE Democratic KoolAid – their standard political drink that is laced with the poison of lies, distortions, and half-truths – which your letters to The Dispatch reveal that you have swallowed completely.
Obama and his gang of left-wing socialists have shown by their actions since January 2009 that they have no real economic solutions to build America (socialism never does grow economies) and that all the Democrats can do is tax and spend the American middle class into oblivion.
Thanks to the Democrats, in just six months, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect.
In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families. These will all expire on January 1, 2011. Personal income tax rates will rise. Thanks to Democrats, the return of the Death Tax, and higher tax rates on savers and investors will become a nightmare for the taxpayers.
Plus, there are over 20 new or higher taxes in Obamacare, several which will go into effect January 1, 2011. They include: The “Medicine Cabinet Tax,”, The “Special Needs Kids Tax,” “The HSA Withdrawal Tax Hike,” “The Alternative Minimum Tax” and “Employer Tax Hikes,” et. al.
But probably one of the biggest disasters of all will be starting in 2011, your W-2 tax form sent by your employer will be increased to show the value of whatever health insurance you are given by the company. It does not matter if that’s a private concern or governmental body of some sort.
If you’re retired? So what; your gross will go up by the amount of insurance you get. The Democrat political gangsters in Congress must be voted out of office come this November before it’s too late for America, and we sink economically to the level of Obama’s home country – Kenya.

Ban Christian churches near the federal building in Oklahoma City?
Dear Editor,
Should Christians build churches near ground zero after the horrible act of terrorism of blowing up a building? I’m not talking about 9/11 but rather the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City that was blown up by Christian terrorist Tim McVeigh. Since it was blown up by a Christian, shouldn’t we ban all Christian churches near ground zero?
This is of course ridiculous but it is no more ridiculous that prohibiting Muslims from building a mosque a few blocks away from Ground Zero in New York. It’s really not that complicated to understand that not all Muslims are alike and that American Muslims do not have a history of violence.
I think it’s time for the news media to stop fanning the flames of hatred just to make a buck in the ratings.

Wonderful beginning to the school year through the hard work of the great staff at Eliot Elementary
Dear Editor,
My wife, April, and I went to Eliot School this week to help ready a first grade classroom for opening day of the 2010-11 school year!
How pleasantly we were greeted by the secretary as we passed through the school office. Leaving the office, we passed some workers there, who were very pleasant to us as well. Later during lunch time, Tom and teacher Judith Dunham stopped and greeted me, asking who I was and with which teacher I was connected. Upon reaching Tammy Vickroy’s first grade classroom, several workers there including janitor Lydia, happily greeted us and the attitude was definitely upbeat.
Later we were introduced to first and second grade teachers: Denice Ryall, Sheree Foster, Rosa McCann, Jessica Chessani, Megan Thoma and Babbs Holiday. Each has their classroom completely organized and decorated with inviting themes including teddy bears, pictures and country scenes. I couldn’t help but notice how genuinely welcoming every person was … it made me wish how I would have loved to have such nice teachers. The entire atmosphere of those operating Eliot School was not only welcoming, but positive and happy.
My thoughts immediately went to how a
6-year-old child would be viewing his first day of school. How much bigger the world must seem to him or her. How utterly dependent those little tykes are to the enormous world in which they are now experiencing. The world is too big for these little ones. It must be very intimidating. They must arrive feeling very insecure and apprehensive.
But imagine being greeted by a teacher who exudes loving kindness, acceptance and an embracing attitude! How wonderful to discover that this is surely a “safe” place to be. In prior years, I noticed how much these little tykes are loved by their teachers … and, how much they (and their parents) love these teachers in return. In a sometimes hostile world, a loving teacher can make such a huge difference in their precious and impressionable lives. The good things that are passed from these teachers and personnel will be instilled in their lives forever.
Reminds me of the day my second grade teacher told my class to be careful when stepping over the movie projector cord lying on the floor as we filed in and joined the third grade class for a movie. After the movie, as my class filed out in front of the third grade students, I tripped on the cord knocking the projector onto the floor with a loud crash, horrifying me to where I was shaking in my boots! I was sure I was going to be sent to the principal’s office. We had no money, how could we pay for the damage? What would my mother say when I got home?
After we had settled into our seats back in our classroom, my sensitive second grade teacher sensed my disconcerting spirit and paused from speaking; then came over to my desk, putting her comforting hand on my shoulder saying, “It’s alright, don’t worry about this, Jimmy, it could have happened to anyone….you won’t have to pay for the projector.” To this day, forgiveness has played an important part in my thinking.
Yesterday, I observed that same sensitive spirit in every teacher, secretary, aide, worker and principal, James Dent, at Eliot School. No wonder Eliot, who’s students are primarily of Mexican descent, have moved from 8th to 2nd in the school district on California state testing and Academic Performance Index….rising from 180th to 16th.
By the end of the first day, smiles will be seen on every little tykes face at Eliot Elementary School. If last year’s scoring is an indication, they will be well taught. And, those who have been taught by the teachers of Eliot Elementary School will be better citizens.

Confused voter: Oh where, oh where is the Tea Party going?

As an often confused voter, I have to wonder where the Tea Party is going and where they are coming from. I believe they came about as a reaction to overspending in Washington when the new president acted to avert a depression.
However, the previous Republican Bush administration cut taxes and spent lavishly while corruptly depleting America’s wealth, reputation, and economy, leaving the Obama administration the thankless task of cleaning up. The Republican Congress backed his every move. And now the Tea Party cries foul? The difference between the two presidents is, well … black and white. The Tea Party denies racism and asserts they are only against big government spending. Really?
My father, a Korean War veteran, told us if we ever wanted a secure job, work for the government. He retired as a manager in the post office. One of my older brothers is a San Diego Sheriff. Another works for a government intelligence agency. I work with disabled students in the local school system. I cannot accept the Tea Party’s call for less trust in the government and more trust in industry and business. If they want less government, they should move to Somalia, where their reactionary dreams of anarchy with no government can come true.
Fortunately, the future of the Tea Party is Sarah Palin. This will eventually lead to the end of the modern Republican Party, which we are seeing as it splinters between moderates and fundamentalists. That is not the only good thing about Sarah Palin and the Tea Party: They taught me the valuable lesson that you do not have to live in a trailer to be white trash.

We should be recovering from, not returning to Bush era policies
Dear Editor,
With poll numbers falling people are asking what Democrats should do now to win the mid-term elections this fall. What message should Democrats use to bring the attention of the voters back to remembering the Bush Era and how we got in this economic crisis in the first place.
If I were the Democrats what I would do is buy 15 minutes of time on the major networks a few days before the election and I would play Bush’s full economic crisis speech of Sept. 24, 2008. I think once the voters hear that again, and the talking head on cable start discussing it, then the election will be about whether America should continue the long hard path to recovery.
