Tax and divert, spend and lie – when will voters scream ‘Enough!’

Dear Editor,

Every time we fall for a tax hike, they spend more. And the taxes never go back down; California has now the second highest overall taxes in the country.

They raised our sales tax by 12.5%. (Yes, the one percentage point increase from an 8 percent rate to a 9 percent rate is a 12.5% increase; their lie said one percent.)

They raised our vehicle property tax (they like to call it an “annual license fee”) by over 50%. Doubt it? Compare last year’s renewal to the one you just got.

They robbed local governments with an empty promise to repay them. We all know what government promises are worth; in the 1990’s they promised to bring the base sales tax rate back to 6 percent when times got better. Gov. Davis instead gave huge raises to state employees.

They continue to divert gas tax revenue, the highest in the country, away from road construction and repair. They asked us to approve a one percentage point income tax for mental health, and now want to divert that. This is what happens when you have the extreme left in power. One lie after another.

And they’re still $21 billion in the red. Yes, the projection just came out – $21 billion.

The next con job on the horizon is yet another vehicle tax hike that they claim will go toward the overpriced, overrated state parks. They want everyone to fund the recreation of the miserable few who use the parks. They are promising free entry with a California driver’s license.

How long do you think that will last? Within two years, they will begin charging a small fee, telling us it’s worth it, that will quickly balloon as they divert the funds to more of their social (dependency) programs.

The free parks lie has roots in pipe dreams as far back as the Pat Brown regime, based upon an economy of sprawling growth that could not last. Jerry (Moonbeam) Brown was even worse: Tax people out of their homes to provide free services to illegal immigrants and blank checks to government entities.

Be forever thankful there is a two-thirds supermajority to raise taxes. Otherwise the situation would be even worse.

City of Gilroy ‘acting as moral morons’ on marijuana dispensary

Dear Editor,

You fail to recognize that if the City of Gilroy is acting as moral morons – out of compliance with state law they are going to lose the lawsuit, and the citizens of Gilroy are going to foot the bill for the City Council’s foolish decisions.

Hopefully the people of Gilroy will take notice and elect smarter politicians next round.

Salvation Army organization appreciates the recent story

Dear Editor,

Thank you for managing the front-page article about the Salvation Army under the leadership of the Viquezes. I just had a call from Robert, and he was very excited and thankful for the neat article. I did not see one flaw of information in the whole thing.

Once again on behalf of all of us involved in the outreach of our local Salvation Army, we thank you very much for telling our community about us and what we are doing to make Gilroy a better place for all of us to live.

Pot dispensary will help resolve some of Gilroy’s gang issues

Dear Editor,

I don’t understand why the citizens of Gilroy are so upset and would like MediLeaf out of our community.

I would much rather have people going to get their marijuana legally from a local dispensary than from some gang bangers in Christmas Hill Park. If anything I think this will help to resolve some of Gilroy’s crime/gang problems.

Think about it – gangs fight over “turf.” Why do they fight over this “turf?” This is their clientele, the people who they sell drugs to. What is the number one, easiest-to-sell drug that is most popular with the 14 to 25 age group? Marijuana!

Let’s not be naive here, either. We know that not everyone who goes to these dispensaries has a medical ailment, and honestly that’s ok. Why am I ok with this? These people are keeping money out of the hands of gang members and organized crime!

I would much rather be spending my hard earned money at a local BUSINESS that gives incentives for patients to help clean up the community and wants to make the community a better place than to a bunch of gang members that only see the community as a source of income!

Now that MediLeaf is here let it stay here, let the cops deal with gangs, and let those of us that do smoke support our local businesses, community and economy!
