VANCOUVER, WASH.—The Gilroy Junior All Stars went toe-to-toe with Hawaii Friday and held their own.Â
Gilroy, representing Northern California, lost 6-1 to the team from the Aloha State in the Junior Western Regionals, but fared significantly better than Hawaii’s first two opponents. Hawaii entered Friday’s game outscoring its opponents 41-1.Â
Hawaii built a 4-0 lead after the second inning. Gilroy scored its lone run in the top of the third when Joseph Aguilera hit into a fielder’s choice allowing Travis Romero to race home.Â
Aguilera also got the nod in the bump, allowing five runs on three hits through the four innings he tossed.
Hawaii notched two more runs in the sixth for the final.
Gilroy continues pool-play against Montana at 6 p.m. today.Â
