KJ to defend title against Atlanta fighter in 10-round bout.
SAN JOSE – It is hard to keep local pugilist Kelsey Jeffries out of the ring.
The IFBA Women’s Featherweight World Champ will defend her title March 20 against Atlanta’s Rolanda Andrews (6-6, 3 KOs) in the 10-round, semi-main event as the Miller Lite Fight Night At The Tank continues into 2003.
Jeffries, 26, who trains out of the Gilroy Community Center gym on Sixth Street in Gilroy, holds an impressive 18-7 professional record with one win by knockout.
The main event of the Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions fight card pits Salinas’ fighter Jose Celaya (17-1, 6 KO) against IBA Americas Welterweight champion Nelson Manchego (11-1-1, 8 KO), of Columbia, in a 12-round bout.
In a six-round middleweight bout, San Jose fighter Ricard Cortez (8-0-1, 6 KO) will take on Victor Branson (4-4-1, 2 KO), of Willamina, Oregon.
In two four-round bouts, Salinas welterweight Luis Perez (4-0, 3KO) will duke it out with Los Angeles’ Raul Torres (1-3, 1 KO); and San Jose’s Cecil McKenzie (9-5, 6 KO) will square off against a fighter to be named.
