School is letting out, and parents are no doubt readying themselves for the usual summer lament: “I’m bored; there’s nothing to do!” Fortunately, many local churches have planned entertaining, educational and economical programs (traditionally known as “Vacation Bible School”) which can meet these needs.

Here are some Morgan Hill opportunities:

– West Hills Community Church (779-0697) will be offering Kickin’ It for God’s Glory from July 23-27 at 9am to noon. Held at San Martin Country Park, children will learn soccer skills, get healthful exercise and learn from the Gospel of Jesus Christ through games, crafts, skits, music and snacks.

– Advent Lutheran Church (779-3551) will offer three sessions of its annual Christian Music Theater on June 18-23, July 9-14, and July 16-21. Children from kindergarten through ninth grade will learn many aspects of theater production (acting, singing, dancing, set construction). Each week-long session ends with an original musical production. The cost is $190 for the first child with family discounts available.

– Also offered at Advent will be Galilee By-the-Sea from July 30 through Aug. 3. Each evening will begin with a meal at 5:30pm, followed by Bible-learning activities themed to first-century Palestine, and end at 8pm. Parents are encouraged to join their children. The cost is $10 per child, $20 maximum per family.

– St. John’s Episcopal Church (779-9510) will hold The Law, the Lawmen and Women of the Bible on June 25-29 from 5 to 7:30pm. After supper children will don cowboy hats and bandanas for Western-style crafts, singing and stories. The cost is $20 per child.

– Morgan Hill Presbyterian Church (779-2820) invites children to Kids of the Caribbean on three Friday nights from 6:30 to 9pm (June 29, July 20, Aug. 10). There will be a free dinner and Bible exploration through music, crafts and games. At the same time adults are invited to Couples Great Dates, a program to energize parents’ marriage.
