Washington, D.C. – Danny Perry, the Gilroy High School graduate injured in Iraq, received a surprise visit from comedian and actor Dana Carvey Tuesday morning while convalescing at a military hospital in Washington, D.C.
Carvey stopped by to entertain Army Pfc. Danny Perry. As the comedian was leaving Perry’s father asked the Saturday Night Live alum who the president is and Carvey broke out his George Bush routine.
Perry, 20, was hit by a rocket propelled grenade in Ramadi, Iraq in late February. He left Washington today and is expected to arrive at a Palo Alto military hospital Thursday.
Rain delays Monterey roadwork
Gilroy – Bad weather has eaten away two days of the one week head start the city hoped to get on the Monterey Streetscape project, a major overhaul of the road and sidewalks between Sixth and Fourth streets. Workers originally planned to block off the two-block stretch Monday to begin work, but pushed back the project Monday and Tuesday due to continued rain fall. Work is expected to commence today – weather permitting.
Concert for Two Pianos
Gilroy – Maria Amirkhanian and Andreas Werz will perform a Concert for Two Pianos, including classical works by Khachaturian, Bartok, and Rachmaninoffm and selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein on Friday, April 21, at 7:30pm at Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 students and seniors and can be purchased at Carol’s Hallmark, Porcella’s Music and Gavilan Bookstore.

Seniors’ ‘Swing into Spring’ ball
Morgan Hill – The Gilroy Youth Commission and the Morgan Hill Youth Advisory Committee have partnered to present “Swing into Spring,” a senior citizens ball to help build community through the generations. They’re turning back the clock for one more night in the 1940s Friday, from 5 to 9pm at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 1700 Monterey Road.
