– The California Department of Motor Vehicles has created a new
Internet option to help vehicle owners determine what fees they
paid to register their vehicles. The fees are deductible on state
and federal income tax returns.

Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles has created a new Internet option to help vehicle owners determine what fees they paid to register their vehicles. The fees are deductible on state and federal income tax returns.

All customers need do is go to www.dmv.ca.gov, click on the VR Fee Calculator button on the home page, and access another calculator called Determine VLF Paid for Tax Purposes. By entering the license number of the vehicle and the last five digits of the Vehicle Information Number, the amount of the vehicle license fees paid for 2006 will be displayed. Information for 2005 and 2004 will also be available.

New teacher workshop

Monterey – The Monterey Bay Aquarium invites K-12 teachers to a special one-day workshop on Saturday from 8am to 4pm. Materials fee is $25. Earn credit at California State University, Monterey Bay for an additional fee. Registration deadline is today.

Volunteers needed

Morgan Hill – Park Ranger Chris Crockett is looking for volunteers for the 9th annual Great Backyard Bird Count Saturday. As long as you have a set of binoculars, no birding experience is necessary. The event starts at the Coyote Lake Visitor Center at 9am. Park vehicle entrance fees will be waived. We will gather after the count for refreshments, and will enter online, real-time results for the event.
