Volunteers needed for Memorial Day

Gilroy – The Gilroy Memorial Day Committee is looking for volunteers for the 2007 event, the 10th anniversary. Team leaders and groups are needed to help the day of the event with parade and park control.

Also, if people or organizations want to be in the parade, fill out an application online. Businesses and organizations who wish to be sponsors of the event also are needed.

‘Angels in America’ on stage at Gav

Gilroy – The Gavilan College Theatre Club will stage a reading of Tony Kushner’s “Angels In America” at 6:30pm Monday.

The play that will be read is one of two parts and won the Pulitzer prize for drama in 1993. This play will be directed and read by Gavilan College Theatre students.

The event is free but on-campus parking requires a 75-cent permit. The reading will be staged in the college theater on the main campus at 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

CMAP’s community orientation

Gilroy – Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP), your local TV station, invites community members to attend an orientation 6 to 7pm, Wednesday. Residents interested in finding out how to use CMAP to produce their own movie, PSA or TV show are encouraged to attend. Videos produced by residents are aired free of charge on CMAP Channels 17, 18 19 or 20.

CMAP’s Orientation will introduce community members to the TV station and discuss how to use the station’s equipment to create a video. CMAP staff will give attendees a tour of the three-camera studio, editing suites and field equipment department. Attendees also will have a chance to sign up as members and make an appointment for future training on video equipment.

Orientation will be held in CMAP’s TV studio at Gavilan College, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.

Adopt a companion animal from shelter

Gilroy – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) have many homeless companion animals currently at the shelter and in foster homes who are looking for a family for the holidays.

Come to the FOSMAS pet fairs noon to 5pm, Nov. 18 and 19, at Petco-Morgan Hill (corner of Tennant and Monterey) and Petco-Gilroy (San Ysidro Avenue north of the Outlets).

Stop by to find a new furry friend, make a donation, find out how to become a foster parent or sign-up to volunteer for the shelter.

Family Fun Day at Rebekah’s

Gilroy – The annual Family Fun Day is 11am to 3pm, Saturday Nov. 18 at the Elks Lodge to raise money for Rebekah’s Children’s Services. Families will receive one ready to stuff Noah’s Ark animal of their choice for $20. All proceeds support RCS Prevention and Education Programs serving 11 Gilroy Schools.
