The Gilroy Rotary Club Scholarships and Awards Program will be
offering $18,000 in college scholarships to qualified high school
seniors graduating in 2008 and entering their first year of college
in the fall of 2008. The scholarships will be as follows:
Goldsmith/Gilroy Rotary floriculture scholarship(s): up to
$9,000, specifically designed for students planning a career in
floriculture, plant science, biology, or a related field. (These
awards are also available to Gavilan College students transferring
to a four-year college.)
General scholarships: Two $2,500 and four $1,000 for academic
achievement and service.
Applicants must live in Gilroy or attending a Gilroy Unified
School District school, have an excellent record of service in the
community and/or extracurricular activities and graduate high
school in June of 2008 with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last two
years.

Attention licensed childcare providers
Childcare providers are invited to attend an evening to meet and get to know other Gilroy Providers at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at the Gilroy Public Library Community Meeting Room. The purpose of the meeting is to establish a network of support for each other, including the sharing of ideas, resources and referrals. Please spread the word and invite other licensed childcare providers to attend.

Career Day is coming to Gavilan College
Gavilan College’s Career Day is a great opportunity for students and the public to learn about specific careers and employment opportunities. Representatives from more than 40 businesses and associations will be on hand to give out information and answer questions.
Students interested in employment should come prepared with their resumes.
Appointments are available in the Career/Transfer Center in SC 102, for those seeking assistance with applications, cover letters and resumes.

Career Information Panel Discussion at Gavilan College
The Gavilan College Workability III program invites job-seekers to a Career Information Panel Discussion featuring Delma Corral of Manpower, Inc., Diane McWilliams of Lowe’s Home Improvement, Lisa Sheftman Stanford University, Eva Trenberth of Gilroy Gardens and Shairon Williams of Gavilan College. The panel will discuss interviewing skills, networking and effective resumes, followed by a question and answer session.
The discussion take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Thursday, in the North Lounge, Gavilan College Student Center, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. Admission is free, and all are welcome.

Enjoy an evening with children
Hey dads and children (5 years and older), come to Gilroy’s All Pro Dad’s Day, from 6 to 7 p.m., Sunday, April 27, at First Street Coffee House.
