Single Stream Recycling Program starts Monday
With single stream recycling, residents can mix recyclables, such as cans, bottles, plastic and paper/cardboard, into one container. A complete list of what can and cannot be put in the recycle cart is available online at www.southvalleydisposal.com. The new container has more capacity than both of the old recycling bins and has wheels which will be more convenient when bringing the cart curbside for pick up. Old recycling bins can be reused as storage or other creative uses, or if not wanted, they will be collected on recycle day the week of Jan. 21.
Single stream recycling will allow a greater amount of recyclable materials to be collected. This program will bring the city in line with current recycling trends since the processing facilities are set up to receive mixed recyclables and have the technology to separate the materials.
