Gilroy – Mysteries are popular all year round, but summer is an especially good time to enjoy a good whodunit. To celebrate 2007 as the “Summer of Mystery,” a fun reading program for all ages, the Gilroy Library is hosting a panel discussion by some of the Bay Area’s well-known mystery authors.

The free event is scheduled for 2pm, Saturday, at the Gilroy Library, Sixth and Rosanna streets, and will feature mystery authors Cara Black, John Billheimer and David Corbett. Throughout the summer, the library will host programs with mystery themes for children, teens and adults.

Audition for ‘Arsenic and Old Lace’

Gilroy – South Valley Civic Theatre will conduct auditions for “Arsenic and Old Lace. The first is Thursday Aug. 2 and Friday Aug. 3. Check in at 6:30pm, auditions begin at 7pm. Check in time for Sunday Aug. 3 audition is 1:30pm with auditions beginning at 2pm. Call backs (if necessary) will be Monday, Aug. 6. Be prepared to read from the script or perform a monologue of choice.

Auditions will be held at South Valley Civic Theatre Warehouse, 8565 Monterey Road.

The show will open Sept. 14 and run four weekends with performances Friday and Saturday evenings and matinees Sunday Sept. 23 and Sunday Oct. 7 at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse.

Gilroy – The American Red Cross is conducting two mobile blood drives in August. The first is from 1:30 to 6:30pm Thursday, Aug. 9 at Community Church, 8455 Wren Ave. The second is from 10am to 3pm, Saturday, Aug. 18 at South Valley Church, 8095 Kelton Drive.

GHS Class of 1977 Plans Reunion

Gilroy – The Gilroy High School Class of 1977 will celebrate its 30-year reunion from 1 to 6pm, Saturday, Sept. 22 in the Oak Area at Las Animas Park. Admission is $15 per person at the “gate” for this wine and cheese event.
