LOS GATOS – Sunday’s rain only postponed the De Anza Flash’s critical U16 Class III soccer match-up against the Los Gatos Magic as the two teams worked out a rain date make-up game.

The local girls U16 class III soccer squad were just as ready – winning a 1-0 decision over the Magic, coached by Paula Rhodes. The victory cemented second place in league for the Flash – which have never finished higher than fifth.

Kelly Logan netted the lone goal on a free kick at the top of the penalty box when she caught the Magic off guard and quickly blasted it into the upper corner.

There was end-to-end action that kept both goalies busy. Flash’s Cayla Derry, Logan and Brittany Barnes all hit wood instead of net early on. Barnes could not convert on a breakaway as the the game remained scoreless until Logan saved the day with her alert playthat caught the Magic by surprise.

The Flash hope to continue their winning ways in Saturday’s 3 p.m. league finale against the undefeated MVLA Breakers.
