Great idea, good caller. And the city’s considering it, according to City Engineer Don Dey, once development is a little further along.
“That is something that is planned in the future for our circulation system,” he said. “The construction of that Luchessa Road extension will be performed at the time when the property in that area is developed. So once the development occurs, we will have a new roadway there. We don’t have any active discussions with property owners at this point, so we don’t have a time frame for when Luchessa will be extended.”
Bally Bunion a real pain
“The secondary entrance to Eagle Ridge at Bally Bunion, the traffic light is on a trip so that even if somebody turns into Eagle Ridge, it gives a red light to the people on Santa Teresa. Now, I know the Eagle Ridge folks think sometimes they should be better than the rest of us, but could you ask the city traffic person what can be done about that? Those two Eagle Ridge lights should be metered together so that it makes some sense for flow. Thank you.”

Yes they should. The Red Phone touched base with Steve Beams, with the City of Gilroy Engineering Department, who in turn, made contact with the appropriate folks with the county.
“After the turn at Sunrise, the county informed me that this issue would be a easy programming fix,” he said. “Southbound right hand turn motorists turning into Eagle Ridge were running over the detection loops to the through phase, thus sending a call to the controller thinking that the through phase needed to be serviced.”
But enough with the technical stuff, says Red Phone. What can be done about it?
“The county said they were going to put a delay on the through loops to resolve this (Nov. 1),” Beams said.
Suggestion for those scammed
“I’d like to make a comment about ‘Scam Artists Invade’ (Nov. 1) to advise those folks to contact their insurance company. Maybe they can get some money back and help those older folks out. It’s not really fair for them to have to pay for that. It was obviously a scam and obviously a robbery, so maybe that can be taken care of by their insurance company.”

Thanks for the suggestion, caller. Let’s hope those good folks read yours truly and contact their insurance companies – if they haven’t already.
Who does it?
“Whose job is it to maintain the alleyways in town, the city or the homeowner? Most people keep their front yards fairly neat. But walk the alley behind and there’s weeds, junk, garbage, dog poop, fences falling apart, you name it. Garbage cans, potholes. I mean, there’s no end to it. Thank you.”
Red Phone:
The Red Phone had an idea of the answer to this question, as it’s received others similar in the past. But it contacted Theresa Hernandez with the City of Gilroy’s Operations Department.
“It really depends on the alley, the streets and all that because some are privately owned and in other cases the city will do maintenance, but it’s kind of minimal,” she said. “As far as picking up illegally dumped items … some things are picked up by the garbage company and some things are picked up by us at the city. So you’d have to be a little more specific.”
For more specific information, call the Operations Department at 846-0444. But Red Phone would bet money you won’t get the city to come out and clean up the dog doodie.
