Dog wandered into his backyard Saturday
San Martin – A man was cited for cruelty to animals after shooting a dog with a .20 caliber pellet rifle, police said. The dog wandered into the man’s backyard Saturday night, police said.
“We don’t know if the dog died from the pellet, or if from getting hit by a car afterwards,” said Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dalia Rodriguez.
The dog was shot about 6:30pm at East San Martin Avenue, police said.
The man was did not know whose dog it was, Rodriguez said.
“Apparently the dog had been going to the property for the past month,” she said.
The man told police he shot the dog because it was annoying his other animals on the property.
Police believe the dog, whose breed was unknown as of press time, was a stray, Rodriguez said.
The case will be sent to the District Attorney’s office for review.
