GILROY – One local man stabbed another twice in the knee as an altercation erupted into violence at a local bar, according to city police.

The incident reportedly took place Tuesday night inside the Aloha Club, a bar at 7287 Monterey St., near Seventh Street.

The alleged assailant, Joel Rodriguez Lopez, 23, of 7081 Alexander St., also cut his own hand on the knife he used to stab Carlos Oslo, 35, of Gilroy, police said.

City police caught up with Lopez at 10:24 p.m. on Old Gilroy Street and booked him into county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, a felony, and fighting in public, a misdemeanor. He also had an outstanding warrant for fighting in public, a misdemeanor charge.

Lopez was still in jail as of press time, awaiting arraignment in San Martin, on Thursday for the misdemeanor charge and Friday for the felony.
