Visitation will be held at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister, CA on Thursday, July 31, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M., with the recitation of the rosary being offered at 7:00 P.M. Family and friends will leave the mortuary Friday morning at 10:30 A.M.for a Mass of The Resurrection commencing at 11:00 A.M. at Immaculate Conception Church 7290 Airline Highway, Tres Pinos, CA.  Maria Guedes as she was commonly known was born on October 15,1924, in Terceira, Azores to Manuel and Jesuina Alves and was the youngest of three children; Nelia, Lionel and Maria Teresa.
 She immigrated to California with her husband and daughter in 1962 to Vallejo, CA and resided there until moving to Hollister in1982 to be near her daughter.
 She worked for Rough Rider Factory in Napa in the early days. She prided herself of maintaining a great house and garden – up until the end. Her house was always spotless and very organized and the garden always beautiful!
 Maria is survived by her daughter Teresa and son-in-law Gary who she adored and thought of as a son; three grandchildren Traci/Jerry Hilton, Brian Carlisle, and Marissa Carlisle, and three great-grandchildren – Brandon Hilton and Cameron Carlisle and Brianna Carlisle.
 She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and husband Joseph who died in 1993.
 Maria Teresa Guedes was 89 years old.Â
