El Teatro Campesino’s crowd-pleasing pageant of the Mayan creation story, “Popol Vuh: Heart of Heaven,” returns, showing at 3 p.m. Aug. 23-24, 30-31 and Sept. 1 at the San Juan Soccer Field, 100 Nyland Drive in San Juan Bautista. And for the first time, the presentation will be shown in Hollister at 3 p.m. Sept. 6-7 at Dunne Park.
Adapted from the “Popol Vuh,” the sacred creation book of the Quiché Maya, “Heart of Heaven” recounts the creation of the universe and the earth, staged as a pageant with large-scale puppets, original live music, colorful costumes and spirited movement.
“Popol Vuh: Heart of Heaven” is narrated in three languages: Spanish, English and Quiché—the Mayan language embodying the oral tradition that kept Popol Vuh alive for centuries.
