Dear Editor,
My last letter on the subject of an appointment of a replacement school board member was written and mailed before the meeting ever ended and it was accurate. I could have written the letter before the board meeting began.
What I learned when I moved to Gilroy in 1989 is that the school district is left-leaning and biased against non-Hispanics and completely sold out to the insanity of multiculturalism.
I slept overnight in the multi-purpose room at Rod Kelley School in 1989 in order to hold a place in line for my daughter to attend our neighborhood school. In the morning, numerous Hispanic families came in after a good night’s sleep in their beds at home and stepped right to the front of the line and my daughter was forced to be bussed to Las Animas School much farther from our newly purchased home. I was livid.
I inquired to the district and mentioned that my daughter is 1/8 Cherokee Indian. Their response was that Gilroy Unified only recognizes Hispanics as a legitimate minority. Not Black, not Asians, not Pacific Islanders, not American Indians. The leadership of the school district favors Hispanics even though they have not been a minority for some time.
Jaime Rosso, who seems to always try to prove he is the sole advocate for Hispanics, once again made a big production of asking for an interpreter for any non-English speaking audience members. Then, when someone submitted a question in Spanish, Mr. Rosso, in his attempt to translate the question, just read it in Spanish and did it poorly at that.
Rosso’s attempt to pander to the Hispanic contingent, some of whom were employees of El Portal Leadership Academy, was met with laughing and snickering. One person – probably the author of the question – even said, “They should just let me read it.”
The racist questions targeted at Robert Heisey were unconscionable. Jaime Rosso’s admission that he saw nothing wrong with the question proves to me what a racist he is. Edwin Diaz, who screened the questions, should be censured for allowing such a question.
Contrary to the lame justifications put forth by Pat Midtgaard and others on the board, race should never ever be a criterion for selecting a board member. I wonder if a law was violated by those board members who admitted that Javier Aguirre’s ethnicity was a factor in his selection. The fact that it was a factor is despicable and it clouds the actual qualifications Javier Aguirre may have possessed.
The entire board meeting was a sham. It was put on to give the appearance of an unbiased selection. During some of Robert Heisey’s answers, David McCrae and Jaime Rosso could be seen laughing and talking quietly; completely ignoring Mr. Heisey.
If I had been Bob Heisey, I would have demanded the board members show some respect and least pretend to be unbiased.
Only Jim Rogers, Jaime Rosso, Pat Midtgaard, Dave McCrae and Edwin Diaz believed the ruse. During the next school board election cycle, I will make sure this atrocity not forgotten. That you can bet on.
