Two days after posting 20 hits against Skyline, the Gavilan College bats stayed active against Monterey Peninsula College in an 11-3 victory Monday in Monterey.
The Rams (17-14 overall, 10-9 Coast Conference) scattered the MPC field with 19 hits, including five extra base hits.
Cal Tashiro, Brian Bradley, Kenny Hall (two doubles) and Lyell Marks each had three hits. A fifth-inning two-run home run was part of Julio Cortez’s 2-for-5 day, and Johnny Cox also had two hits to go along with two RBIs. Tyler Oertle’s lone hit produced two runs.
Even with all of that, the Rams stranded 15 runners on base. Gavilan led 4-1 through three innings and 6-3 after five before a five-run fifth widened the gap.
Shea Adams went seven strong, notching four strikeouts to earn his seventh win of the year.
The Rams are right back on the diamond today to host Canada at 2:30 p.m.
• Christopher High baseball resumed Monterey Bay League play Monday and trumped visiting North Monterey County, 9-5.
The Cougars (11-4 overall, 6-0 MBL) now face the toughest stretch of their schedule thus far when a two-game set against first-place Monterey (11-8, 9-1) gets underway Wednesday at 4 p.m. at CHS. The week concludes with a trip to face the Toreadores.
• Angelica Carrillo picked up her second straight victory in the circle and the CHS softball team shut out Harbor 6-0 on the road Monday.
Eight different Cougars accounted for the team’s eight hits in the nonleague ball game. Mariah Martinez (2), Arianna Vasquez and Brittney Souza had an RBI each.
Christopher (12-5 overall, 6-0 MBL) is at Monte Vista Christian on Thursday.
