GILROY – A 12-2 thrashing of Evergreen Valley on March 7 was just a sign of things to come for Gilroy High’s baseball team, which has rocked North Salinas and Alvarez in three Tri-County Athletic League games to push the Mustangs’ record to 5-3 overall while outscoring its most recent opponents by monumental margins.
Gilroy took an 18-1 victory at North Salinas on Tuesday before returning home to close out the two-game series with the Vikings on Friday with a 9-0 win. Roberto Celestino had a team-high three RBI in the first victory over the Vikings, while Jose Gamboa had a triple and two RBI in the second win.
The Mustangs pummeled visiting Alvarez 16-1 on Saturday, as junior pitcher Michael Hartman threw a team season-high eight strikeouts for the victory. Jordan Holler and Chris both plated three runs, as Gilroy hit a total of five doubles in the game. The Mustangs will have a chance to get to 4-0 in TCAL play today when they travel to Alvarez for a 4 p.m. game.
The schedule will get tougher later in the week when Gilroy faces Salinas (9-1) in a home-and-away series Friday and Saturday before squaring off with last year’s TCAL champ San Benito (5-3-1) the following week.
