SAN DIEGO – Jordan Holler and Taylor Chris wowed talent evaluators at a showcase put on by the California Baseball Coaches Association last weekend, earning each of the Gilroy High seniors a spot on the All-Northern California All-Star team, which will be playing against a Southern California squad in a three-game series taking place Saturday and Sunday at San Diego State.
Holler earned a starting spot at center field, while Chris, a lefty, will be pitching for the NorCal All-Stars.
“My phone is going crazy with all these college coaches calling about these guys,” former GHS manager Clint Wheeler said.
Every player on the roster is guaranteed to see a certain amount of time on the field. According to Wheeler, the Holler and Chris made the 20-person team after 150 local players were invited to the tryouts. The team will play a doubleheader on Saturday, the first of which will be nine innings and the second being seven, and a nine-inning contest on Sunday.
