Gilroy’s boys tennis team held serve in its final two matches of the season, defeating Monte Vista Christian last Tuesday 6-1 after crushing Watsonville 7-0 in the final match at home April 8.

The victory was an excellent way to finish according to Gilroy coach John Langer, as many of the players will be with program next year.

“The boys finished out the season strong,” he said.

Langer noted that the key win in matches with Monte Vista Christian came from No. 2 singles player Matt Chan, who pulled out a 7-6(7-5), 6-7(4-7), 10-7 victory.

“Overall, it was a good season for us and it gives us some confidence going into next season,” Langer said. “It will be exciting to see how the boys play in the league finals next week.” The best of the Tri-County Athletic League will be meeting Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
