A barn east of Gilroy containing hundreds of wooden pallets caught fire early Wednesday morning, causing a section of road to be closed as firefighters batted back the flames. The fire, at a ranch on the 2700 block of Ferguson Road, was reported at approximately 4:30 a.m.

The Gilroy Police Department responded to a variety of crimes this week, including criminal threats, burglary, embezzlement, possession of a firearm by a felon and child endangerment. Arrests were recorded in the GPD blotter between July 16 to 21.

The Gilroy Police Department will be looking for drug or alcohol impaired drivers at an overnight checkpoint on Aug. 22, according to a GPD press release.
