SJ man charged with vehicular manslaughter turns himself in

UPDATE: Dennis Leffew, the San Jose driver who was recently charged with vehicular manslaughter in the Nov. 6 crash that killed Gavilan College basketball player Andrel Gaines, turned himself in Monday and is being held on a $250,000 bail in the San Mateo County Jail, according to Karen Guidotti, chief deputy with the San Mateo County DA’s Office.

Sierra LaMar’s purse and clothes found

Santa Clara County law enforcement officials announced Thursday they found a purse containing “neatly folded” clothing that belonged to missing 15-year-old Sierra LaMar, and they expanded their search by covering a larger area in north Morgan Hill, and devoting search dogs and other resources to the efforts.

Flores: Remake of ’80s series has a few laughs, in the beginning

The last two weeks, I went to see movies that were squarely in the comedy category, including “Wanderlust” and “Friends with Kids.” So when I went to see “21 Jump Street” this weekend I thought that the good comedy streak might run out. While the movie had its funny moments – including some tongue-in-cheek nods to the series on which it is based – there were not many jokes that were not featured prominently in the trailer.

Martha Gutierrez’s body found in San Benito County

Ranchers discovered the body of 52-year-old Martha Gutierrez Thursday morning in the rolling hills of San Benito County, about 50 feet off the side of Highway 156 near Highway 152, according to Jaime Rios of the California Highway Patrol.

Flying his own airplane was his main joy as well as hunting and fishing.Robert was joined in peace with the Lord, his wife Josephine Allemand-Howes and daughter Joann Howes. He is surivived by his children Meri Opoien (Don), Geri Perez, Michelle Rogers (Gary), Robert A. Howes (Jeannie), Peggy Howes-Mayfield (Ric) and Christine Nemecek.

No leads yet; police continue search for missing teen

Law enforcement investigators have interviewed more than 50 teenagers in Morgan Hill and Fremont in hopes of turning up some clues that might lead them to find Sierra LaMar, 15, who has been missing since Friday, authorities said.
