Free hands-on art event for children Saturday

Children, come one, come all to the Wheeler Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for a free hands-on art event called Kids Discover Art sponsored by the City of Gilroy.  

Police search for man who fabricated Feb. 10 robbery/kidnapping

An armed robbery, carjacking and kidnapping that supposedly happened Feb. 10 on the 7600 block of Monterey Street near Fourth Street downtown was an elaborate lie to cover up what law enforcement now alleges is a case of felony embezzlement and filing a false police report.

Update: Coroner IDs man who died in car wreck on 101

Arnie Almaguer, 47, of Salinas, was identified as the person who died in the early morning car wreck on northbound U.S. Highway 101 south of Rocks Road, according to San Benito County Sheriff's Detective Terri Edwards.

SOFTBALL: Cougars thump Bulldogs, 7-1

Senior Mariah Martinez and junior Kristen Dennis had three hits apiece, senior Aly Olvera struck out five, and the Christopher High softball team posted a 7-1 victory over visiting Sobrato in the Cougars' home debut Wednesday in Gilroy.
