ROUNDUP: GHS wrestling defeats Palma; 32nd annual Mid-Cals next
A Tri-County Athletic League dual meet featuring two of the Central Coast Section's top-three teams ensued Wednesday night as the No.1-ranked Gilroy High wrestling squad visited No. 3 Palma. The Mustangs improved to 3-0 in League duals with a 45-27 win, two days before the start of the 32nd annual Mid-Cal Classic at GHS.
Flores: Classic spy tale is slow paced but full of twists
"Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," directed by Tomas Alfredson, looks and feels like a movie out of a different era. It is a thoughtful spy thriller with a much slower pace that relies on a musical score to build the momentum rather than bombs or explosions. If the "Mission Impossible" series is at one end of the spy caper spectrum, "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" is at the other end.
Franklin Bruce Mello September 17, 1947 – January 16, 2012
Franklin Bruce Mello, age 64, of Gilroy CA passed away at home in his sleep on Jan. 16, 2012. Frank was born Sept. 17, 1947 in Watsonville to Frank C. Mello and Violet J. Mello. He graduated from Gilroy High School in 1965 and worked as a heavy equipment operator for PG&E and Terra Construction.

Owlivia is WERC’s newest animal ambassador
Last year, the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center's Oscar, the screech owl who had been a popular educational animal at WERC since 1996, passed away on Easter Sunday. Several months later, WERC put out a notice to other wildlife rehabilitation centers that it was interested in acquiring another screech owl to join its educational animal ambassadors - non-releasable birds, mammals and reptiles that visit schools and public events to teach children and adults about our local native wildlife and habitats.
