Big rig vs. car sends two to hospital
Emergency personnel tend to a 78-year-old male driver and his 74-year-old passenger from Mariposa. The driver attempted to turn south onto Highway 25 from northbound U.S. 101 and pulled directly into the path of a big rig driven by Paul Misner of Minnesota. Misner swerved in an attempt to miss the small sedan, but the back right tires of the rig hit the car, just missing crushing the occupants. Both people in the car were taken to Saint Louise Regional Hospital. Misner was not injured.

$29,500 for county pedometers
Poo-poo the pedometers: "Hi. I was surfing the Web and came across an agenda for the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. I noticed on the May 3 agenda, there was a proposition for $29,500 to be spent to purchase 5,000 pedometers for employees of the county to use. Why is the county in this day and age when budgets are so tight, spending money on things like pedometers for employees? I think this is wasteful spending, but I haven't seen any minutes to see if this was approved or not. Can you tell me if it was and why?"
