The Gilroy Teachers Association is asking for a salary increase and better benefits for teachers, speech therapists and physiologists as part of this year’s contract negotiations.
Former Gilroy mayor passes at 77
Gilroy’s gangly former mayor with a broad smile, firm handshake and deep voice – a descendant of the city’s founding father and a much-decorated American war hero – died Wednesday morning at his home in Texas with his wife Patricia by his side. Kevin A. “Mike” Gilroy was 77.
Police blotter: continuous sexual abuse of a minor
The Gilroy Police Department responded to a variety of crimes this week including continuous sexual abuse of a minor child, possession of a controlled substance for sale, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence. Arrests were recorded in this week's GPD blotter from Nov. 4 through 11.

Vandals set slide on fire at MH elementary school
Vandals set fire to the playground slide at Paradise Valley Elementary School in the back side of campus around 6 p.m. Thursday, according to Principal Swati Dagar.
