Cross-dresser shakedowns, a purple potty prison and bra rentals might seem like unorthodox ways to stand up to a disease that claims the lives of 7.6 million people each year worldwide, but coupled with traditional fundraising methods, these tactics raised approximately $80,277 for cancer research thanks to Gilroy's annual Relay For Life.

Man arrested after shooting at house on Alexander Street

Nineteen-year-old Gilroy resident Ivan Lustre was arrested Sunday night after firing a single shot at an inhabited dwelling on the 7500 block of Alexander Street. 

Thursday Street Dance series starts this week

The Morgan Hill Downtown Association's annual Thursday Street Dance summer concert series starts this week on Third Street, with country music artist Kelly McDonald taking the stage Thursday night. The music starts at 7 p.m. near the intersection of Monterey Road and Third Street in downtown Morgan Hill. The Thursday Street Dance will continue until Sept. 26, with bands such as JJ Hawg, Wild West Show, Rock Hard, Cold Storage and others scheduled to grace the stage in the coming weeks. The concert series will take place at a new location this year - in the parking lot of the former Simple Beverages building at the intersection of Monterey Road and Third Street. Attendees and downtown visitors will not be able to park in the lot on Thursday nights for the remainder of the summer. The annual live entertainment series is sponsored by the Morgan Hill Downtown Association and its members. For more information and a full schedule of this summer's Thursday Street Dance lineup, visit www.morganhilldowntown.org. 

Gilroy pedestrian, 63, critically injured in felony hit and run

At 11:05 p.m. June 21, Gilroy Police officers responded to reports of a hit and run collision involving a vehicle vs. a pedestrian on the 1300 block of First Street.

UPDATED: Suspect identified in assault incident

Police had their hands full bright and early at 3:14 a.m. Saturday when officers responded to reports of a physical fight involving multiple subjects on the 800 block of East Eighth Street in Gilroy, according to a GPD press release. The suspect is still outstanding.

Man arrested for groping woman, holding her against her will

Gilroy Police officers have arrested 28-year-old Carmen Manuel Pena of Morgan Hill for sexual assault and false imprisonment, according to a GPD press release sent this afternoon.

UPDATED: Assemblyman Alejo votes yes on bill that could strip Gilroy’s public works funding

The City of Gilroy could lose millions in state funding for public works projects if California Senate Bill No. 7 - authored by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D- Sacramento) and Senator Anthony Cannella (R-Ceres) - eventually becomes law, confirmed Mayor Don Gage.
