Gilroy Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a large bar fight at the Beehive Bar connected to the Longhouse Restaurant, 8195 Monterey St. in Gilroy, at 12:25 a.m. Monday morning.

Man arrested for DUI, hundreds left without power
Javier Vargas, 54, plowed his Ford F-I50 truck into a power pole on Leavesley Road Sunday night, survived despite flipping the vehicle, then was arrested for driving under the influence, according to California Highway Patrol.
San Juan manager supports removing ban against chain merchants
In recent years, a couple of national chains have expressed interest in opening at the Windmill Market shopping center off Highway 156 in San Juan Bautista. Shopping center owner Jim Gibson, though, hasn’t even bothered bringing the applicants before city council members for potential approval.

High school choir spaghetti dinner
The Gilroy and Christopher Choral Program will hold a fundraiser spaghetti dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Gilroy High School cafeteria. Money from ticket sales helps pay for transportation to the Central California Choral Festival April 12 at Cal Poly, San Luis Opispo and also helps the Chamber Singers raise money to sing in Washington D.C. April 2-7. The goal is to sell 1,500 tickets. The meal includes pasta with three sauces made by Mama Mia’s, garlic bread, salad dessert and drink.
