Union asks: Justice for Jack?
A controversial issue that sparked community outcry is coming to a crossroads more than a year after Jack Daley – Gilroy High School's popular former athletic director and district staff member of 20 years – was “reassigned” following an April 7, 2011 incident when first-year GHS track coach Alvin Harrison was arrested for a DUI on Daley's watch.
Congratulations, Gilroy’s Teachers of the Year 2015
GILROY--A Gilroy elementary school teacher and two high school teachers are recipients of the prestigious Teacher of the Year Award for 2015, presented by the Santa Clara County Office of Education at the annual Teacher Recognition Celebration each fall. They are Janet Londgren, transitional kindergarten teacher at Antonio Del Buono Elementary School; Kamala Wood, biology and environmental science teacher; and Elaine Carne, algebra, geometry and integrated math teacher, both at Dr.TJ Owens Gilroy Early College Academy. The event honors Santa Clara County's finest teachers, each selected by their respective school districts. The SCCOE produces the gala with the support of community partners Texas Instruments, Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union and the San Jose Mercury News. A tradition for more than 40 years, the Teacher Recognition Celebration is the oldest and largest celebration of teachers in California, and the most prestigious local award given to classroom teachers, according to the SCCOE.

GILROY—This time last year, Gilroy High was scrambling for a solution for its condemned bleachers. The home side bleachers had been deemed “not structurally sound” by San Jose-based Duquette Engineering and were said to be out of commission until April 2014.
