SAN JOSE –Alex Stalock notched his eighth win of the season between the pipes for the San Jose Sharks, a 2-1 overtime decision over the visiting Dallas Stars Wednesday night.
Tommy Wingels recorded his 11th goal of the season 1:52 into the extra session to pull the Sharks within seven points of the Pacific Division-leading Anaheim Ducks.
San Jose recorded only two shots on net in the third period, then two in the four-on-four.
Wingels, in overtime, controlled the puck in the Dallas zone before sending it to Scott Hannan in the left corner. Hannan’s pass went to Marty Havlat at the left post. Wingels, driving through the slot as defenseman Kevin Connauton turned his back to the attacker, pounced on Havlat’s pass and snapped the shot inside the right post.
After a scoreless first period, San Jose earned a goal at 18:06 of the second period.
Hannan was in position at the right point as James Sheppard, at the right goalline, pulled a pass to the defenseman. Hannan’s low shot was deflected at the inside of the left circle by Havlat and past goaltender Kari Lehtonen.
Dallas squared the game 6:27 into the third period. Rookie Valeri Nichushkin, in the low slot, received Trevor Daley’s pass off a rebound of a Tyler Seguin shot and shoved the puck past Stalock.
San Jose finishes the pre-Olympics portion of the schedule with a 7:30 p.m. home game Friday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
