North Bound rallied past the Borrachos 10-9 Tuesday at Las Animas Park to move into a tie for first place with idle Those Guys in the Men’s E Winter Softball League standings.
Trailing 7-6 after five innings, North Bound struck for three runs in the bottom of the sixth. A two-run, two-out double by Matt Hernandez left North Bound (3-0) up 9-7.
Matias Franco and Danny Melendez each singled and scored in the top of the seventh for the Borrachos for a 9-9 deadlock. Consecutive hits in the North Bound seventh from Julian Tellez, Mario Talamo and Mike Hernandez earned the hosts the victory.
Good, Bad & Ugly moved to 3-1 with a 21-6 nod over the Players-HD Auto Glass. Eddie Adame scored five runs and Benny Carrasco stroked four hits and scored four runs for the winners. Gary Diaz went 3-for-3 for the Players.
VFW Bingo topped the Loco Boys 18-13 as Josh Dias powered a home run, double and two singles. Mike Catangay went 4-for-5 for VFW Bingo. Juan Arias collected four hits, Marco Lopez three for the Loco Boys.
In Men’s D Basketball League action Wednesday at Solorsano Gymnasium, Justin Nicholson raced to 33 points as District 5 beat Free Range Laphog, 52-39.
Kyle Billups and LaMont Chappell each posted 12 points for the 1-2 Laphog. District 5 (2-1) held a 27-20 lead at halftime.
Rich Holquin popped in 24 points as the Hawks eased past the Spartans, 81-35. Jesus Reyes followed with 18 points, Pac Lotta 10 and Mark Taylan 10 for the winners. Jordan Miller canned four 3-pointers on the way to 16 points for the Spartans. Thomas Doak added 12 second-half points for the Spartans.
Hard Ninety, 3-0 atop the six-team league, survived 57-53 over Recology. Tony Travis came through with 16 points, Mark Cisneros 12 and Rick Hattaway 11 for the league leader. Donny Gooding worked inside for 13 points and Romeo Travis netted 11 for Recology (1-2).
