Pearl Wright Ruhanen was born in Richford, Vt. on Feb. 11, 1920. She passed away in Walnut Creek on May 15, 2003.

Pearl spent her early life in Vermont then moved to Washington, D.C. during World War II to work for the federal government. She resided in Alexandria, Va. where she met her husband, Arthur. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Redwood City, then to Los Altos, finally settling in Gilroy, where they lived for 43 years.

Pearl worked in real estate for many years, starting as a Realtor and then earning her brokers license. She owned and operated Ruhanen Realty in Gilroy and was a member of WIT (Women In Touch), the California Association of Realtors and the South County Real Estate Board. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, growing orchids and being involved with her grandchildren.

Pearl was a beautiful, kind, loving and generous mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by Arthur Ruhanen of Gilroy, her husband of 60 years; her three daughters, Sandra Lynn Freeman and her husband Robert Freeman of Garrison, N.Y., Patricia Ann Schrupp and her husband William of Lafayette and Kimberly Sue Bartlett and her husband Dr. Scott Bartlett of Chestnut Hill, Penn. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Robert and Saurin Freeman, Jeff and Kevin Schrupp and Alexandra and Natalie Bartlett. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Lucius.
