Red Phone: Low branches need to be cut

“Red Phone, it seems several times a year unwanted phone books show up on our doorstep. How can we tell the publishers we do not want them? Is there a number to call? It sure is a huge waste of paper and other resources to produce and distribute these books to people that don’t even ask for them. Something should be done.”

Red  Phone: Dear Something Should Be Done, Red Phone has received several questions regarding phone books, including one last summer. There is something you can do. On the second page are instructions on how to order more or cancel the ones you now receive. Call 1-866-329-7118 or go to www.mydirectories.att.com.

Follow the instructions near the bottom of the page.

Red Phone still finds the books useful, but really doesn’t need a new one every few months. Once a year is fine.

For those non-AT&T customers, there are other resources you may want to check out as well.

Sophia M. Hitti, senior account executive with Fleishman-Hillard, one of the world’s largest public relations agencies, said the Yellow Pages industry maintains a website at www.yellowpagesoptout.com that allows consumers nationwide to tailor print deliveries to their home.

The website offers:

– A way for consumers to stop delivery of one, several or all directories.

– Images of directory covers and delivery schedules, making it easy for consumers to identify which to include in any opt-out request.

– Email confirmation.

– Privacy, as consumers’ personal information is used for the sole purpose of optimizing their Yellow Pages experience and will never be sold.

Hope that helps, good caller.
