Thanks to the help of watchful community members, Gilroy Police have arrested 34-year-old Thomas Vasquez for allegedly being a felon in possession of ammunition; possession of methamphetamine; and parole violation; according to the GPD.
On Aug. 16, investigators from the GPD’s Anti-Crime Team served a search warrant on the 7500 block of Alexander Street in Gilroy following complaints from “numerous residents in the area of the perceived illicit activities occurring in their neighborhood,” according to a GPD press release. Detectives on the Anti-Crime Team say they were aware that Vasquez was a wanted felon “as he had absconded from State Parole.” Detectives observed several narcotics transactions taking place at the residence and also recognized several known and repeat narcotics offenders and gang members, the press release states.
During their search warrant, investigators located methamphetamine prepared for sale, paraphernalia and additional contraband “which Mr. Vasquez is prohibited from possessing by virtue of his felony convictions,” police say.
“This is an example of the type of work that can be done when community members work in partnership with their police officers to keep their neighborhoods safe and free from this type of dangerous and intimidating behavior,” adds GPD Sgt. Joseph Deras.
