In response to a “recent rash” of vandalism and theft from City parks that include destruction of fences and theft of swings, the Gilroy Police Department is reaching out to the community for assistance in addressing this issue.Â
“The cost to make these repairs has been significant,” wrote Sgt. Pedro Espinoza in a press release today. “We are asking the community for assistance by reporting illegal activity and/or suspicious person(s)/activity, especially during the late hours.”
Parks with night-lighted court facilities are closed all year from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Other parks are closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. November through February and from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. March through October. Police remind that “no person shall enter or remain in a park during hours of closure without prior approval of the director.”
“With your assistance, we can help preserve the quality of our parks and provide a safe and clean environment for our children to play,” states Espinoza.
Anyone with information regarding illegal park activity is urged to contact the GPD at (408) 846-0350. Parties wishing to remain anonymous may call We-Tip at 1-800-782-7463 (1-800-78-CRIME).
