SAN JOSE — Christopher linebacker Jacob Moen was a force to be reckoned with all season long.
Moen led the Monterey Bay League in tackles with 162—25 more than his closest competition—and was named the Defensive Player of the Year.
But on one night, the junior was particually dominate. Moen racked up 17 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery in Christopher’s 57-0 shutout over Watsonville on Nov. 1. His performance in that game led him to being honored by the San Jose Sabercats as the High School Defensive Player of the Game April 4 at the SAP Center.
“Getting to go down to the field and watch the players play up close and having my whole family there was a super cool experience,” Moen said.
Moen was instramental in helping the Cougars to a postseason berth, though they were knocked out in the first round after a 24-0 loss to St. Ignatius College Prep. In addition to his league-leading tackles, he had five forced fumbles, two and a half sacks and an interception. But the Sabercats honor won’t slow him down.
“It pushes me to work harder—I can’t settle,” Moen said. “Now that I’ve got that, I’ve got to work for a bigger and better award.”
While the season is still five months away, Moen has already set the bar high for his senior season.
“I think as a team next year, we really want to win the league championship and I think we can do that,” he said. “The ultimate goal would be to win the CCS Championships, but I really think we can win the league championship next year and I hope we do.”
